The Nameless Collective Researchers/Time Travellers/Detectives/Hosts:
Naveen Girn is a community engagement specialist and award winning curator whose practice centers on fostering intergenerational and intercultural dialogue in Metro Vancouver. Naveen has worked on exhibitions for Museum of Vancouver, Surrey Art Gallery, Surrey Museum, New Westminster Museum and Archives, Centre A Asian Art Gallery, and Royal BC Museum. He was Project Manager for the multi-institutional 1914-2014: Komagata Maru: Generations, Geographies, and Echoes centennial commemoration, and he curated Simon Fraser University’s definitive online exhibition for the Komagata Maru. Naveen works to curate exhibitions and public programs that provide marginalized voices a space to be heard.
Milan Singh (Ph.D., Communication Studies) works at Simon Fraser University, and is a Research Fellow at the Centre for Policy Studies on Culture and Communities. Her research areas include the bombing of Air India Flight 182, South Asian Canadian history, and media representations of race and gender. Milan was a lead researcher on SFU’s Komagata Maru Journey digital archive project, and has presented her research on the Air India tragedy and the Komagata Maru at over a dozen academic conferences. She has spoken on several community panels, and has also co-curated events and consulted on projects related to these topics.
Paneet Singh is a writer/director for film and theatre, and is currently an instructor in the Theatre Department at Arts Umbrella. From 2009 to 2012, Paneet served as the Artistic Director for the annual variety show, Nihaal. In 2015, he co-organized multiple events focused around Sikh and South Asian history, including the Mewa Singh Centennial Commemoration, and the Sant Teja Singh Sikh History Tour. In 2016, he wrote and directed the site-specific play, The Undocumented Trial of William C. Hopkinson staged at the Vancouver Art Gallery.
Producer: Manjot Bains, Editor-in-Chief of jugnistyle.com. In Grade 5, Manjot wrote and illustrated her first work of fiction about underwater time travel. It remains unpublished. Since then, her creative non-fiction and lifestyle writing has been published in Geist Magazine, Jugni Style, and Huffington Post BC. Manjot also co-hosts the Jugni Style Podcast, which covers pop culture, style, and race on iTunes. Manjot is the co-owner of Anara Design Company, and also runs Digital Handloom, a communications and community engagement practice with a focus on digital storytelling. She has a fondness for reading race and feminist theory, pilates, and indie fashion labels.
Sound Engineer: Devinder Singh began sound mixing independently in the 1980s. Throughout the 80s and 90s, Devinder accompanied several Punjabi musicians including Debi Makhsoospuri, Harbhajan Mann, Ranj Singh, and Indian-rock fusion group Dal-Dil-Vog, playing dholki and as a sound technician. Beginning in the early 2000s, he refocused his attention to produce Kirtan (Sikh devotional music) through his label Anand Music, and continues to accompany his brother Prem Singh on tabla, performing Kirtan throughout the Greater Vancouver area.
